Walk and Talk is a movement-based somatic therapy. It is an active approach that promotes forward movement. Walk and Talk therapy provides a unique opportunity to address emotional, mental, and physical health simultaneously.
Walking while talking has the unique benefit of bilateral stimulation as it reunites the two sides of the brain. The left side of the brain sees the world as a functional tool and assures safety; while the right of the brain keeps us open to surprise and relationships. Being in nature and repetitive movement also help soothe and focus.
Walking side by side with a therapist may feel less intimidating than a traditional office setting. It provides ease in the conversation, loosens our thought patterns, and helps us consider new approaches to old problems.
Walking with another person also cultivates connection, which is at the center of a strong therapeutic relationship. As we walk with a shared rhythm, we know that we are safe, wanted and not alone.
